Death

What is death and why do people fear it? Many people try to rationalize it based on what a religion teaches. But who truly knows what happens after you die, I have never heard of anyone die and come back to tell us about what happens after death. Religion tells us that we are going to heaven if we are good and hell if we are bad but how do we know for sure that's how it works. How does anyone know that the afterlife plays out that simply. Who gets to decide what is considered bad or what is considered good, like most things it's based entirely off opinion. People who believe in religion will say god determines what happens to you. But that statement is based entirely on faith that there is some kind of being that holds your hand after death.

I'm not a religious person at all and for good reason. I do not believe anything any religion teaches until I get hard evidence; proof through science and technology. But the fact that I don't believe in any religion also gives me a sense of clarity. I've come to an understanding of death and why people fear it. Many people might not agree but I rationalized it based on what is know about the human body and mind. Most people fear death because of two reasons, the first is because they are not content with their lives and they wish they could have done something more or done something different. They beg for life even if it's a few more minutes, to reminisce over their life. The thought of not having the chance to finish what they started terrifies them. The second reason I've come to realize is the darkness. Despite what everyone says they believe, everyone is afraid of the darkness that might come after death. People talk of an after life whether it would be that of heaven or hell, but most people fear the idea of having no one of the other side.

People are afraid of being alone, the nothingness. Most people say that the hand of god will take them into the after life, a form of a new life. To truly test a mans faith, threaten his life. The reaction of a persons life being threatened tells you all you need to know about how strongly they believe in their religion. Those who beg for their life don't really believe the teachings of their religion, the people who face it have already achieved an understanding of death and accepted it regardless whether it's their religions version or not. I'm not bad mouthing religion and I'm not telling people to go out and threaten peoples lives to check their faith. I'm saying maybe we don't have that much understanding of anything after all.

When I used to wear a uniform people always asked me the same questions. "Do you want to die?", "Why are you doing this?", or "How can you do this?" Truth is everyone fears death one way or another. No one wants to die and if anyone ever tells you the contrary they are liars. Life is a gift that no one ever wants to give back. People who ask those questions can never understand why other people wear the uniform. I never tried to explain it. I was able to do it because I've already accepted the darkness that comes after death. However that isn't that same as wanting to die, it just means that I'm not afraid to die. I'm not afraid to walk into that darkness. Recently the integrity and direction of this country worries me. Politicians and the government are starting to tear itself away from the people and making that gap bigger. No one is listening to the people and instead listen to the politicians that forget the people put them there. Regardless I would still die for this country if I had to, but we all the know the idea is to make the enemy die for their country first and stay alive in the process.

Gun Control NY Pt II

These past few weeks have been a complete mess, especially in NYC. There has been an outcry for gun control and for politicians to create more laws for gun control. The entire country is aware of the shootings at Sandy Hook and because of this tragic event people want more gun control, but what people never do is think. Will more laws really solve the problem of these shootings or shootings in general? People don't stop to think about just that and they still think that imposing gun control is the only way. How about if the gunman at Sandy Hook wasn't the only one with a gun, what IF a teacher or even the janitor had a firearm. They could have reduced the damage done by the gunman or thwarted the entire plot completely.

The argument people would make is that having guns around children is dangerous, people would say this because they will always justify their point of view even if they know it's wrong. Never in my life have I heard a gun shoot someone by itself. People are what should be blamed for a gun being dangerous. Poor muzzle control, poor trigger finger control, or poor gun safety habits. I recently saw a video of a 13 year old that shoots better than most people in the military. Her name is Katelyn and she is a competitive shooter. A 13 year old, shooting to compete with other adults. If she can practice gun safety and handle a gun why can't other people? You don't even need to like guns but one thing that is a must is respect, every human needs to respect the gun. It does not matter who you are or where you're from you will be exposed to a gun in a lifetime. But instead of fearing it, respect and control it.

So many laws are coming up to control guns, if analyzed these laws are stupid and pointless in a sense of reducing gun crimes. For example, the category of "assault weapon" is completely farfetched. I cannot STAND that category simply because it isn't even a legitimate one. It is a category created by politicians to broaden the guns their laws apply to. Officially that category does not exist but legally it does. the law bans guns not by functionality or caliber but by features, this allows politicians to ban assault rifles, carbines, sub machine guns, machine guns, handguns, rifles, and even shotguns! Yet these politicians are hypocrites themselves, they set to ban the very thing that protects their life everyday. How will these laws affect criminals? Oh wait I forgot they don't follow laws they are CRIMINALS. So lets take away your defense and make the criminals jobs easier! That's rational. The punishment for bringing a firearm into a school is also more severe now! This will help prevent shootings like Sandy Hook because the first though through that guys mind was "is this legal?" Who thinks of this stupid crap!

Another thing people should question is who these laws are meant to protect. It's preached that these laws protect law abiding citizens, but they seem to do nothing but make us more vulnerable to criminals and their firearms that are not affected by the laws. A staff sergeant was recently arrested because he had 5 high capacity magazines in his car. No weapon no ammo nothing. What the hell is wrong with the police, this guy risked his life to fight for your freedom and you arrested him for having magazines? It should bring up the question of who these laws are meant to protect, who it's meant to give a false sense of security. If anyone claims that he didn't know that's bullshit, all military personal have a military ID. Not to mention that this guy was still in the military so he doesn't even need a license to own a gun let alone high cap magazines. These politicians make up all these laws but it's clear that the politicians don't think about what they do like everyone else. This country was built on guns and people willing to use it. The day we forget that we need to always defend ourselves is the day the people lose power. Then the government would be free to do anything it wants.
